What we collect
Your name, email address, partial location (UK postcode, converted to approximate coordinates), dog profile details and photographs, swipes and matches, messages between members, membership and billing status, support messages, and basic technical data such as device type and log records needed to keep the service secure.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
To create and run your account and show matches, performance of our contract with you. To take payment for memberships and keep billing records, contract and legal obligation. To moderate photos, investigate reports and prevent fraud or abuse, our legitimate interest in keeping members and animals safe. To answer support enquiries, contract and legitimate interest. To meet tax, accounting and legal requests, legal obligation. We only send marketing email if you have opted in, and you can opt out at any time.
What other members see
Your first name, your dog profiles and photos, and an approximate distance in miles. Your full postcode, email address and exact location are never shown; location is deliberately rounded so it cannot identify your address.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. We share it only with service providers who process it on our instructions: our hosting and database provider, our payment processor (which handles card details directly; we never see or store your card number), our email delivery provider, and an AI provider used solely to check that uploaded photos show a dog and contain no unsafe content. We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or to protect the safety of people or animals.
Automated checks
Uploaded photos are screened automatically before publication. A rejection does not affect your account status and you can email us to have any decision reviewed by a person. We do not carry out automated decision-making that produces legal effects for you.
Storage, transfers and security
Data is stored securely in the UK/EEA. Where a provider processes data outside the UK, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Addendum. Dog photos are held in private storage and served only through short-lived signed links. Access is restricted, traffic is encrypted in transit, and database access is controlled by row-level security rules.
How long we keep it
Account, profile and message data is kept while your account is active and deleted when you close it, usually within 30 days. Billing and tax records are kept for 6 years as the law requires. Reports, blocks and moderation records are kept for up to 2 years so we can spot repeat behaviour. Backups roll off within 30 days.
Your rights
You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or a portable copy of your data, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can download your data and delete your account yourself from Settings, or email hello@pimpmyhound.com. We respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113).
Children
PimpMyHound is for adults only. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18 and will delete any such account we become aware of.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies and local storage needed to keep you signed in and to keep the service secure. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies, so no cookie consent banner is required.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes we will notify you by email or in the app before they take effect. The date at the top always shows the current version. Questions? See our contact page.
